I followed the Humans of New work series on pediatric cancer. This series was very powerful and sparked my interest. The series highlights the patients, nurses, doctors and parents’ experiences having to deal with pediatric cancer. This story works very well visually. All stories are showcased with an imagine and a powerful quote that captures the essence of the article. There were tons in this series, and it was very visually pleasing. The narrative is highlight this specific “humans of…” segment. Being able to dive into how all of these different people deal with heir experience with pediatric cancer was really interesting to me. Because there is more than one story in this series, I believe the couple stories I did read were all structurally the same. They were able to get their point across and really showcase themselves and their story without dragging on. I was interested the whole time. I chose this series to look at because I was interested to see why they had a whole series on pediatric cancer. Yes, it is a big topic, but I never realized how much raw writing came from these experiences and each one evoked empathy. I am a very emotional reader/viewer, so I get attached to characters easily. Though it’s a story I still feel bad for whatever they had to go through to get where they are today. While each article has an overarching theme involving pediatric cancer, not all of them were sob stories. Some of the stories had to go with new technologies, doctors working on research, and success stories of patient. I was pleasantly surprised and loved the series.
