I love how every single Humans of NY story starts out with just a picture of someone's face. No context, no glam, just them in their every single day environment. The way they would appear as if you passed them on the street. One of my favorite parts about this blog is that you would never have any idea of what someone is going through, I love hearing parts of people's story.

The humans of NY story that I read was published on May 19th, 2020. The girl in the picture appeared to be in her 20's, that is why I chose her out of anyone because she is around my age. She began the story by talking about this man that appeared in her life at the age of 5. At first, he was just someone that made her mother happy and then the story continued to show that he became her father. He was a cop, he spun her around with just his wrist, he was the best dad. I really liked all of these small details that worked with each of the pictures. There was a picture of him spinning her around, a picture of him in his police uniform, and a picture of him and her mom when they met. It is a very concise and quick way to bring the reader inside of this persons intimate life. He loved art, that was a key detail.

She then moved on to speak about how he was diagnosed with MS and his last 'mission' for her was to deliver a piece of art to the singer Sting. I think that the things that worked were the details that were carefully sprinkled throughout to eventually bring us to the end of the story and the ending details. It leaves the reader with closure, and it gave me chills. In just one paragraph I felt like I knew her family and the love she had for her dad was palpable. I think the most important thing that works is the concise details and the way they structure the story.

Humans of New York on Instagram: ““I was five when he became a person in my world. I didn’t know exactly who he was. I just knew that there was someone around that was…”
