Both visual narrative we looked into show the lives of children that are surrounded by fear and uneasiness because of a war. I think the VR component of the stories really brought the story to life, and dove the reader into the subject. Both stories are children who have gone through huge change because of Syria being at war.
In Clouds over Sidra, the 12 year old girl describes herself at a refugee camp in Jordan after getting away from Syria. Syrian refugees are able to reside there for a period of time but they have no idea when they are able to return home, or if their home will be there when they get back. Sidra describes her daily life with her family. The virtual reality part really put us in school. with Sidra, or playing with her friends at school.
Bashir's Dream, highlights the life of a wheelchair bound man after he was shot by a sniper while getting candy. The video highlights his joy even though he is facing deviating circumstances. The virtual reality helps the reader picture Bashir and his life through his own eyes, and how he is able to live through his struggles. You are really able to jump into the story and feel his emotions. Even though he has suffered from tragedies because of the war, he is able to stay in connection with his childhood self, and pictures a future for himself.
Both stories are similar in the sense that both children have big dreams, and spire to do great things even though they have faced shut hardship. The reader is able to see a lens into their life and feel their optimism through the Virtual reality.
