"You're my favorite person to talk about space to"
I listened to a few different podcasts from both StoryCorps and This I Believe,
but the one I’ve decided to talk about is one from the prior called “'Why do you
like space so much?': A NASA Engineer Talks With His Space-Obsessed Nephew.”
It’s a very quick podcast and it shares a conversation between NASA Mission
Operations Engineer Joey Jefferson and his six-year-old nephew Jerry Morrison.
The two express their shared love of outer space, remember how they got
interested in the topic, and discuss how much they love talking to each other.
Ultimately, Joey expressed his hope that his nephew will always be so willing to
learn and talk about the things that he loves. It was a very lighthearted,
uplifting podcast that made me smile, particularly because I too used to be
obsessed with space when I was younger. The story works really well in an audio
format because it showcases the exuberant excitement in the two speakers’ voices
and Jerry’s unmistakable childlike joy adds a lot to the lighthearted mood.
Additionally, the format captures the back-and-forth nature of the conversation
and makes it feel very natural, almost as if we are sitting in on one of the
conversations Joey and Jerry frequently share. Finding someone who is just as
passionate about your favorite things as you are is a magical thing, and the
nature of this story's audio format helps to capture that feeling.

I also loved space as a child! I think podcasts are great for hearing tone of voice and emotion, like you mentioned and It's great that this podcast captured so much of it.
