Mourning the loss of Syria

I listened to the storycorps podcast “I have these dreams where I go back: Dad and Daughter mourn a Syria they once knew.” This was about a dad and his daughter who had left Syria in 2010 because of the war and hadn't been back since. The war resulted in many people being killed or displaced. The dad was born in Syria and missed it but he knew he couldn't go back for a while. The city he grew up in was one of the oldest in the world but had sadly, gotten completely destroyed because of the war. His dreams at night would haunt him of the people he lost and the memories of him reuniting with his family once again. The daughter also has a strong connection to Syria. She too has memories of her loved ones and mourns the loss of their city they once knew and their country's people as well.

I really felt for them listening to this podcast and put myself in their shoes. I can't even imagine witnessing the horrors of war and really admire the dad for making them leave Syria as soon as he thought it could get dangerous. Leaving everything behind must have been heartbreaking for them, especially when it comes to leaving your family.
