Winter Snow

Here is a photo of my nephew watching my new puppy Edgar and I play in the snow...

My list of words when we wrote outside had to do with the warm feeling I get when I am standing in a winter storm. Growing up, my dad always called snow "adverse weather". In my house we have a great room with a huge bay window that looks out on a lot of land. When it snows, my dad makes a huge fire in that room and turns on the spotlight outside of that window and we watch the snow. He get so excited about watching the snow fall and his joy is what I am reminded of when it snows. Snowfall automatically feels like a warm and fuzzy home feeling sitting in front of the fire with excitement. It also reminds me of a day of skiing with my whole family. Snow elicits a lot of great feelings and memories for me. On nights like those we usually go skiing for the entire day adding to my sense of family and warmth when I see snow.

My list...

In response to the readings on trees, my favorite was the film Treeline. I found it so interesting that in the very beginning of the film when asked "what is a tree?, all of the people being interviewed laughed and had a very hard time putting into words what a tree was. Objectively, I'm sure the definition is quite simple. But it tells a lot about the complexity of the true meaning of trees that these experts cannot simply define what a tree is. Also the line "they do not go anywhere very fast, but they endure" gave me chills! I never thought about trees so deeply and all they endure physically and all they do for the planet at the same time. They are a very perplex overlooked everyday creature and I thought the way the documentary was filmed was so captivating.

  1. I love that photo of your nephew! It perfectly captures the excitement and awe of the snow. I agree with you in regard to the Treeline film. I never thought of trees as individuals, connecting/communicating with one another through their roots. I thought the documentary was very well-done as I explained in my post. The vivid imagery and sharp audio really brought the trees to life. Good luck with your winter short!

  2. I really liked the picture too! It's adding up to the text real good, and help to set and transport the mood. And I agree that trees are being underestimated and hold way deeper meaning than we might think.
