Watching Watsky's video memoir trailer was oddly compelling for me. I actually listen to some of the music he produces. I had no idea he used to be a comedian on the college circuit. I think the audio/video medium for a memoir drew me in because it portrayed a sense of bleakness, almost bitter repetition. And at the end, there was an epiphany where maybe the endless hotels and college gigs meant something. All of this was portrayed and suggested visually. The adventures in the depression memoir stuck out to me because Allie Brosh is usually a webcomic artist, but here she was using her medium to talk about depression. I don't think of Watsky as a writer or a videographer, but he combined both in his memoir. The moral for me is that telling stories through diverse mediums can tug at different heartstrings. Some things don't come across through words the same way that they can simply be shown or heard.
