It is like naming your favorite song...
As per our conversation today, this is too much like choosing a favorite song or favorite book or favorite color. This is probably my favorite work of literary journalism, so I'm going to go with that. I go through phases and a couple of years ago I was reading a lot of books and articles on happiness and joy (I'm mostly reading funny things right now... because pandemic...). The Dalai Lama also has one called The Art of Happiness that I read years and years ago. This is from The Book of Joy, with the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and interviewer, Douglas Abrams:

"'Discovering more joy does not, I'm sorry to say,' the Archbishop added as we began our descent, 'save us from the inevitability of hardship and heartbreak. In fact, we may cry more easily, but we will laugh more easily, too. Perhaps we are just more alive. Yet as we discover more joy, we can face suffering in a way that ennobles rather than embitters. We have hardship without becoming hard. We have heartbreak without being broken.'" (12)
