It all has Meaning

How to Ruin Everything by George Watsky was my favorite piece from today’s selection. I liked how he enjoyed himself and his performances even though not a lot of people showed up all the time. His writing went well with the video being shown, and it flowed really nicely. I think this memoir would have been hard to fully understand without the video. His writing was very engaging but I personally am not a big creative nonfiction person so this short essay would have not really given me much perspective without having the visuals with it. I was able to watch and be sucked in by the author and his story methods. The use of video was an amazing addition because we are really able to see his journey and how he is trying to make the world a better place. Each shot went along with what was going on in the writing and was very captivating.

I also enjoyed Brosh’s “Adventures in Depression” His description of what is really going on in a person’s head while struggling with depression was vert relatable and not overly dramatized like on social media platforms today. Mental health is a hard subject to talk about, but the author is able to add humor to make the situation seem lighter. I found this relatable because that is what Marvel does in a lot of their movies. Like even though the world is being invaded by aliens they still manage to have funny moments. I find this same trait in Brosh’s writing. She is talking about something so serious and personally, but her little jokes make it easier to deal with as an audience. especially those who don’t struggle with mental illness and are reading about what is going on for someone who does have a mental illness.
