Here’s a little blip that I’m considering using for my winter short. I like where I’m headed with this at the moment.
“Snowflakes trickled down like autumn leaves, frozen by winters frosted tongue past my fourth-story window. Warm serenity shrouded me as I imagined the crackle of a fireplace behind me, a necessary mindset as I was tucked away in cold isolation. Trails of snow lay like sloths amongst the tall oak trees, like Scarface had sneezed on our small New Hampshire town and buried us.”
Tree Readings:
I love how descriptive and thoughtful Hesse’s piece was. Sometimes I find it hard to write about the seemingly mundane, but Hesse peers through a lens and observes every fine detail, and beautifully crafts stories about their life, giving them a human-like narrative. One of my favorite passages was:
“A kernel is hidden in me, a spark, a thought, I am life from eternal life. The attempt and the risk that the eternal mother took with me is unique, unique the form and veins of my skin, unique the smallest play of leaves in my branches and the smallest scar on my bark. I was made to form and reveal the eternal in my smallest special detail.”
Tools like personification are so important in creative writing, as they establish a sense of wonderment that can be hard to find in a standard non fiction book. These elements are so important to wield in a writers toolkit, and they make the process of writing that much more invigorating.

Great start and beautiful video. I like that Hesse passage too. You dabbled in the personification as well! :)
