Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood
Hi, I'm Madison! I'm a junior who's majoring in psychology with a minor in communications. One of my favorite non fiction books is titled “Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood” by Trevor Noah. Trevor Noah is a famous comedian who released an autobiography a few years ago talking about the hardships he faced growing up in South Africa. I like this book because I have always found it so interesting to learn about how people in other countries grew up and compare it to how different or similar my childhood was from theirs. He gets really personal about all the trauma he dealt with in his childhood but even after all he had witnessed, he still worked his way to the top and made something of himself. His story is so inspiring considering he went from nothing while living in Africa, to something when he moved to America and became a famous comedian, who later took over his own talk show. The major takeaway from this book was proving that anyone can make it big, no matter what economic background they come from as long as they're determined to do so. This book has a nice, motivational feel to it and I highly recommend reading it.
